Does your check run out before the bills are paid?

Have you ever thought, “I work way too hard to have so little?” Does your check run out way before the bills are paid? Maybe it isn’t that you need more money or even another job. What if it’s all a result of what you’re doing with the money you do have?

In Haggai’s day, God wanted His Temple built but the people were spending all their income on their own homes instead. It seems no matter how hard they worked they simply couldn’t get ahead. Maybe it’s more about how you spend your money rather than how much you have. Here’s what was said about God’s people back in Haggai’s day.

“You have sown much, but harvest little; you eat, but there is not enough to be satisfied; you drink, but there is not enough to become drunk; you put on clothing, but no one is warm enough; and he who earns, earns wages to put into a purse with holes” (Haggai 1:6)…”Consider your ways!” (V.7)

I’m not advocating that you have to build a literal Temple but maybe you need to start giving to God’s purposes rather than spending all you have on your own pleasures.

James said, “You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures” (James 4:2b-3).

“The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered” (Proverbs 11:25).
