THE SPIRIT, THE FLESH AND THE NEW YOU

“However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him” (Romans 8:9).

Did you catch that?

If you “belong to Christ” and the Spirit of God dwells in you, the real you, who you are, is not “IN” the flesh! You are joined spirit to Spirit with God! (1 Corinthians 6:17).

Many folks think they have to “die to self” but I think it’s because they don’t really know who they are in Christ. The self is not the flesh. The self, who you are, is who you are in union with; in Christ therefore there is no need to “die” to the self.

I can see why some might say, “You have to die to the flesh.” If by that they mean I have to die to the pulls or lusts of the flesh. But check this out:

“Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires” (Galatians 5:24).

This is why we are told to “reckon” ourselves dead to sin!
Because we are! The old self has been crucified with Christ, buried and raised to walk in new life as a brand new self in Him!

Being a “NEW” self doesn’t mean temptations stop but it does mean we now have the means to combat them. We see ourselves as having already died to sin and that we have already crucified the flesh with its lusts!

We wrestle not against “flesh”, not even our own.

  1. Yea Louie that text of Galatians 5:24 is a tricky one to translate from the original —-It needs to be understood a lot further than just Strongs—In realistic fashion, it is saying that Christ in His human flesh crucified the satanic lusts that infect our human flesh —–We do not do a thing but trust in the continuing Mediation of Christ as our High Priest in the order of Melchizedek
