  1. Hey Louie, I enjoyed “A New Creature in Christ.” I think this is a great topic for discussion and would just like to support what you are saying by adding a comment. You are right in that, the world tries to convince people that once an addict, always an addict, etc. I’m going to stay away from drug addiction, alcoholism, etc. because I have no idea about the struggle people have to go through. However, you do know, through experience, the struggles of drug addiction. Thank God that you are able, through your experience, to witness the victory through and in Christ. And as you know, addictions are not limited to chemical dependency. I would be better able to identify with other addictions. It could be sex, porn, homosexuality, gambling, greed, things, etc, you name it.

I am not going to classify alcoholism or drug addiction as an illness, because frankly, I don’t think it is. But I do know it is a sin. Anything that has a grip on our life to control us and our behavior in a negative way has to be sin. One of the fruit of the Spirit is temperance. Galatians 2:23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith. 24 Meekness, temperance; against such there is no law. Temperance is self-control (the virtue of one who masters his desires and passions, esp. his sensual appetites). As sinners, man does not have the capacity to master his desires, passions, or sensual appetites, because HE IS FLESH. Romans 8:5a For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh. So sinners cannot help but do the works of the flesh. Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness. 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21a Envying, murders, drunkenness, reveling, and such like.

However, as a new creature in Christ, we have living inside of us the ONE who masters those addictions and fleshly appetites. It is HE not WE that does it. It is the Spirit of Christ who does what we cannot do within ourselves.

Now I am not saying that one does not need help at first through programs offered by the world. That is not the point. The point is, when we choose to believe that Christ died for our sins, was buried and raised the third day according to scripture (1 Corinthians 15:2-3), He quickens (makes alive) us with a new Spirit (Ephesians 2:1). Old things are passed away and all things are become new in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). As you beautifully explained in your video, we now have a NEW IDENTITY. When I got saved, it took me some time to embrace my new identity. I did not feel new at first, not that it is a feeling, it is rather a knowing. As I continued to walk in the Spirit, this new identity that was true in my spirit was made known to me in my understanding, and has been made a reality in my daily walk by the Holy Spirit.

Our identity is Christ now, but Satan would love for us to believe that nothing has changed. If one was a drug addict, alcoholic, homosexual, adulterer, prostitute, etc. and has believed in Christ, then they must take Christ at his word, that it is finished. We must believe by faith that we are a new creature and embrace our new identity. For, it is the accomplishments of Jesus Christ through the work of the cross that has made us new.

    1. Arnita strikes again! Thanks. One thing that comes to me as I read this is God is the one saying this about me/you, it’s not something we are saying about ourselves. In Christ we have been made holy, blameless, perfect, justified, sanctified, etc. If that’s what God is saying about me who am I to argue with Him?

      thanks again,

    1. Thanks Nick, I’m enjoying the new adventure. Tracey’s working on a picture to use as an intro to the videos. I’m calling it the Louie File. You never know how many people simply won’t read a blog but will watch a short video. The Bible does say, “Faith comes by hearing” not reading.
