WHO SAYS?

There is an interesting verse found at the very end of the book of Judges which says, “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” In other words there was no one to govern or decide the direction of the nation so “All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way” (Isaiah 53:6). Although this is a verse taken from the Old Testament prophet Isaiah, it remains true even today.

As I watch society unravel at its core my mind follows the trail backwards to attempt to understand where things went off the rails. According to the Bible, the root of our problem hasn’t changed a bit. It all started in a Garden as recorded in Genesis chapter 3. God says one thing and the enemy says, “did God really say?” Amazing!

If we want to discover meaning we must look back to the one and only who gives everything meaning. If we want to attempt to redefine reality, well that’s another thing. Let’s look for a minute at the meaning of one particular word, the word marriage.

The world is clamoring for what it calls “Marriage equality”, or “the right to marry.” Where do rights come from? Who says? The first thing we have to do is define the word “marriage.” Merriam’s dictionary says,

a (1) : the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law (2) : the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage <same-sex marriage>

b: the mutual relation of married persons: wedlock

c: the institution whereby individuals are joined in a marriage

2: an act of marrying or the rite by which the married status is effected; especially: the wedding ceremony and attendant festivities or formalities
3: an intimate or close union <the marriage of painting and poetry

Now the question arises, “who defines marriage for us?” Everything I see throughout the scripture tells me marriage is between one man and one woman but as you can see above there is the added “the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage.” If we, as a society, continue to redefine reality in this manner destruction has to be the result. What’s interesting to me is the enemy, that old serpent, hasn’t got any new tricks. From the beginning his strategy has been based on one question; “Did God really say?”

If we refuse to take God at His Word we will continue to reap the horror of a confused society. We will inevitably continue to see “men” and “women” who don’t know who they are. When I say, “Don’t know who they are” I mean they won’t even know if they are a man or woman. After all, what makes you a man or woman? I heard recently someone in the news say, “Male and female aren’t determined by our physical makeup; there’s more to me than my body parts.” This is what’s leading many to push for “unisex” bathrooms, even at an elementary school level. If this isn’t madness I don’t know what is.

As you may have already realized, it’s quite difficult to write something about how one defines words and meaning. I mean, how can you understand me if you define these words differently than I do? How does anything have any meaning at all?

If we look back, even beyond the fall in the Garden in Genesis, to Isaiah 14 we will see the real cause of the confusion. Isaiah 14 describes what, for many, is the mind of Lucifer (satan). His plan all along was to be in charge. He said, “I will make myself like the Most High.” But we can reduce this a bit and just say, “I will make myself…” This I think strikes at the root of what is going on in our society today. We (the ruling authorities, or man as a whole) are doing “what is right in their own eyes”, because fallen man is so deceived they have gone astray “like sheep” and think they can “make themselves” whatever they want, even to the point of men transforming into women. With this type of reasoning our society will unravel. Will you pray with me for God to restore sanity to our world? In the words of Jesus himself let us pray, “Thy kingdom come thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven.”

  1. There is the church, and there is the world, and the two do not overlap. The world takes its definitions from the spirit of error since members of the world are indwelled by its prince (Eph 2). However, God has had a restrainer in operation for those who at least operate according to nature (Rom. 1). Eventually, when one rebels against even that, then the definition of what is natural gets changed to accommodate what is contrary to nature.

The church, on the other hand, is the body of Christ. This means that Christ actually indwells his body, the church, and operates according to how he created things to be. This, as we know, goes contrary to self-will and to the appetites of the flesh. The saints learn to expect that they do not order their lives according to their self-will or their appetites on the level of mental powers, emotion, and hormones. Instead, they order their lives according to the identity of the new man as empowered by the Holy Spirit.

The Bible nowhere validates homosexuality and nowhere celebrates it. It is nowhere offered as an identity. What then does the Bible offer as hope for those who experience sexual desire for the same sex? There has to be an answer. The church in the main needs an answer that goes more deeply than, “Homosexual impulses not denied are sin,” true as that statement is.

We would expect the answer to be miraculous, just as all deliverance of any kind is. The deliverance is a new life that is not the old life. The old man died. Therefore, when someone with homosexual ideas about identity becomes a Christian, that version of the old man dies, just like any version of the old man dies, for in fact, for everyone who comes to Christ, the old man dies.

This is not known or accepted in the church in the main. Rather, the Gospel is known only as forgiveness of sins and a saint having an old nature as well as a new nature. The church in the main does not know how to live beyond the flesh, and so it is carnal. Carnal Christians appear like the world. Paul says this to the Corinthians: “you walk like mere men.”

The job of the church is to keep order in the church, not integrate the church with the world. The church and the world share the same planet earth at this time until the bodily return of Jesus Christ, and so there will always be conflict between the two. As Christians, we learn to be in the world but not of it. The reason that the laws and beliefs about sexuality have eroded since the sexual revolution of the 1960s is that the idea of America as a Christian nation has been founded more on laws, plus a numerical majority by population. As the number of Christians who are not carnal decreases, the world uses democracy as a tool to outvote the Christians.

The world would like to say, even if the numbers remain somewhat close, at least for political appeasement to remain a strategy, “Live and let live. Vote based on civil rights, not your personal, religious beliefs.” People should vote their own vote. This means that unless more people are actually born again and delivered from carnal Christianity that looks like the world, then the world will bend that way.

This is not a fatalistic concession. Sin can never win. It can only have its self satisfaction for a season. The thought that “A new, progressive, freedom for all to do whatever feels right will lead to a stable democratic world” will fail. It just won’t happen.

The job of the saints is to know God’s constant love and readiness to transform any sinner of any kind into the new creation man. In Christ there is no such thing as a homosexual. That identity and practice simply do not exist in Christ. This does not mean that inclinations do not exist, but that there is no basis or need to operate based upon those inclinations. This is the same freedom that Christ offers to one captured by any sin.

Jesus Christ will return as king of the world, then to assert that kingship. In the meantime, the church is to know him as king personally.

  2. You are 100% right–and as you prayed–only God himself can give us LIGHT to think right–If our Father does not give our leaders His LIGHT to make right decisions then we can kiss our America bye-bye.We will self-destruct.We need to kiss the Son.
