THE REAL BATTLE IS THE TRUTH ABOUT JESUS

The Bible talks of spiritual warfare and it isn’t just metaphoric language. Lately it seems Tracey and I have had quite our share of it. We have come across more people, as of late, opposed to Christ. As you listen more carefully though there real trouble lies with religion and people claiming to represent Christ. There are many, many ways we can all fail each other when it comes to living life but don’t let failures and disappointments with “Christians” give you an excuse to throw Jesus out too.

One thing that has brought me peace through the turmoil is to know all of this is only a result of being exactly where God wants us. It truly is war, and the closer you get to the front lines the more of a firestorm you run into. I am reminded of when Jesus called the phony religious leaders of his day a “brood of vipers.” When it comes to a brood of vipers all coiled up and ready to strike, there’s nothing you can do that won’t end up getting you bit.

No matter what Jesus did or didn’t do there were always accusers and we know who that is don’t we? If you do this someone won’t like it. If you do that someone else won’t like it. It seems to be a no win situation. In Matthew 11:16-19 Jesus said, “to what can I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the market places, who call out to the other children, and say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’ For John (the Baptist) came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon!’ The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds (children).”

So many are so deceived about God and what the truth is when it comes to Jesus Christ. One thing is for sure He is the most controversial figure to ever walk the earth. Even so at some point we all have to come to a conclusion. C.S. Lewis said, “I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: ‘I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God.’ That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic–on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg–or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.” Mere Christianity pg. 52
