DIDN’T YOU HEAR THE FORECAST?

We had somewhat of an ice storm earlier this week and boy did it cause a stir. When there is the threat of ice in my neck of the woods it suddenly causes a craving for bread and milk throughout the community. That has to be what it is, because you wouldn’t be able to find a gallon of milk or loaf of bread anywhere you looked. While this is what I would call very strange behavior it did make me think though. What if everyone took the return of Jesus Christ as seriously as an impending ice storm?

Just as predicted ice storms, Jesus’ return is sometimes mocked as if it isn’t going to happen. In 2 Peter 3 he told us mockers will come saying…”Where is this promise of His coming?” All I’m saying is he’s coming! If we are so ready to rush out and buy bread and milk for fear we will go without during the few days of an ice storm how much more should we be prepared for the return of Jesus Christ? Oh that people would be as spiritually prepared as they are physically.

While earthly bread has its uses shouldn’t we be thinking a little bit about our eternity? Jesus told a crowd of hungry followers “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on him the Father, God, has set his seal.” Obviously this doesn’t mean we aren’t to work, or buy bread, but it does mean our focus is always being re-calibrated toward that which is eternal.

Before anyone runs out saying, “Louie, said I shouldn’t buy milk and bread when a storm is coming.” My only point with this is if we are so aware and vigilante when it comes to temporal, earthly things such as ice storms why not the eternal?

I’ll end with Jesus’ own words on this subject. He said, “When it is evening, you say, it will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ And in the morning, ‘There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Do you know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times?” The return of Christ is closer everyday. I pray you are prepared.

  1. i tell you the truth I would not be where im at today with the lord if he had not dragged me in–im not trying to promote calvanism but its just simply the truth of my experience

    • I hear you Kenneth, but isn’t going to drag anyone into heaven kicking and screaming. He wants us to love him, and even though he is love, love is always, and only, freely given which does require our will.

“How will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?” Without hearing the Gospel no one will get there.
      thanks brother,
