IF YOU’VE EVER BEEN REJECTED OR MISUNDERSTOOD

If you’ve ever been rejected or misunderstood you don’t have to look far to find out Jesus can sympathize with you. In the third chapter of the Gospel of Mark alone the Pharisees conspired to kill him for healing a man’s hand, His family thought he had lost his mind and attempted to have him put away, and the scribes thought he was possessed by a demon. How’s that for a days work?

Jesus had such a crowd following him after they found out he could work miracles he couldn’t even eat a meal. It brings to mind what some go through today because of the paparazzi. His very own family tried to take him into custody thinking he had lost his mind. It’s one thing to be on the run from others, but when you can’t even take refuge with your own family you better know who God is.

The scribes charged him with being possessed and said, “He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons.” I love the wisdom Jesus uses to answer them. He says, “How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand”…He went on to say, “But no one can enter a strongman’s house and plunder his property unless he first binds the strong man, and then he will plunder his house.”

As far as I can tell the strongman is Satan and his house is mankind prior to salvation. Jesus takes over Satan’s house, which is us, and frees us from enslavement. He bound him by way of the cross in order to plunder his goods. Of course we know we were really God’s goods all along don’t we? Jesus simply took them back to give them to their rightful owner!

The end of Mark three is marvelous. While a crowd gathered around Jesus they said to him “Behold, your mother and your brothers are outside looking for you.” His response was “Who are my mother and my brothers?” He looked around at the crowd and said, “Behold my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.”

What a powerful thing to say about the believers around him. Jesus had been accused by the Pharisees, suspected by his family and charged with having a demon from the scribes and yet there were still those that believed. If we are a part of the family of God we too have a place to go even if the whole world is against us. Jesus said, “The world is going to hate you because it hated me first.” We might as well get used to it because the more we stand up and stand out for Christ the more we will be misunderstood and maybe even falsely accused. Thank God for his body of believers.

Jesus told us “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me.”

  1. there has been times in the past when I got frustrated with gods dealings with me and I told him I did not want to be a Christian anymore and he said to me so where are you going to go–that’s when I realized there was nowhere else to go.

    • That sounds like Jesus’ invitation to the disciples when he said, “Do you want to leave too?” and they replied “Where could we go you have the words of life.”
      thanks,
