Dead to Sin

How can so many Christians walk around saying things like “We sin all the time” when the Bible tells us we’re dead to sin? At least ten times in Romans six alone we are told we’re dead to sin therefore sin no longer has dominion over us. I don’t think I could ever improve on the clear words of scripture so here they are straight from the King James version of Romans six.

v.2 “We, that are dead to sin”

v.6 “Our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.”

v.7 “For he that is dead is freed from sin”

v.11 “Reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin…”

v.12 “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body…”

v.13 “Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin…”

v.14 “For sin shall not have dominion over you…”

v.17 “You WERE servants of sin…”

v.18 “Being then made free from sin…”

v.22 “But now being made free from sin…”

  1. Louie, And with the scripture it’s not kinda sorta… It’s Black & White… absolute… WE ARE DEAD (to sin)… not maybe… I want to tell christians this too.

    • Donald, I talked with a man today about Romans six and asked him what he thought about Christians that claim to sin all the time. He’s a strong believer but when I asked him what he thought about being dead to sin his response was “I believe it’s true positionally.” Is it just me or is that a cop out? I don’t think God would tell us to “reckon” ourselves dead to sin if it wasn’t true.
      thanks for the input,

      • The problem is like what was said at Louisville… when are we going to believe what God says… not what we think it means… He says we are dead to Sin… does He say “You are kinda dead, but not really dead.” Or does He say ” You are Dead!… (To Sin) & alive to ME!” my vote is with Papa because He knows what He’s TALKING ABOUT! If anyone wants to disagree… fine they are disagreeing with God… Go for & see where it gets you!

  2. its an understanding thing–sin is a word that many Christians have trouble with–when adam sinned he disobeyed gods command and ventured off into doing things independently of gods control–when you become a Christian you come under gods control–there are a lot of people who call themselves Christian who really are either not saved or are ignorant of being under gods control–it took me 26 years to come under hts full control–was I saved before that? im not sure but I know I am now because I depend on him for everything.

    • Amen Kenneth and the lack of understanding in most is part of what continues to fuel my wanting to tell them. I love how Paul says things like, “Know ye not?” It’s as if all Christians should know these things but they don’t do they? It’s a privilege to get the opportunity to tell them.
      thanks,
      Louie
