Most of the time we think if God’s in something we’ll be healed or delivered but is that really the case? What if his plan for you is to lose yourself to set someone else free? Christ in us is really in us for others.
While we are young in our faith it seems to be all about us and how God is going to provide and protect us. As we mature we get to the place where we are trusting God in our own lives no matter the outcome so we’re more and more focused on how others are. This is of course what God is all about isn’t it? I mean in one instance he didn’t have to send his one and only Son here to die he could have said “No, I think I’ll just let them reap what they have sown this time. I’m not saving them.”
On the other hand giving, even if it hurts, is what love is all about so in that sense God must intervene. Love simply couldn’t sit back selfishly while others were dying so he did what love does, sacrifice himself for the good of the one in need. This is what Christ is producing in all believers if we could just get on board with it.
The Apostle Paul put it this way “Death works in us but life in you.” He was a mature believer that wasn’t focused on himself anymore. He said we are “Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.” Sometimes, even though God loves us and we are his, we may not receive deliverance but rather be called upon to sacrifice for the deliverance of others.
Let me end by saying, God’s kind of love is called Agape love. Agape love is always for what is best for others. This may manifest itself in many ways but you can be assured no matter how it looks or feels it is for the good of others. God isn’t selfish or proud but rather bears all things. He even went as far as to become the lamb slain for others. If you are not quite at that stage yet don’t be distressed but know that God is working in you for his good pleasure and his pleasure is what is best for others.
