I talked to a young lady on the phone this week who was asking how I knew so much about what was going to happen in her life with her man, before it happened. It isn’t because I’m psychic, but because I have already been through this scenario and I know what happens. Looking back for me, the thing I didn’t do was believe God for what He was telling me and she is doing the same thing. We think we are confused because we can’t see how this will ever work unless we’re the one fixing it. It clearly says in Hebrews 3:14 for we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end. Today if you hear His voice Do Not harden your hearts… This passage goes on to say the Children of Israel did not enter into the promised rest because of unbelief. The same goes for us right now, we can’t seem to enter into His rest because we don’t believe God.
Some think they can live any way they want to and still call themselves Little Christs’ AKA a Christian. The reality of the situation is that God shows us grace and mercy all the days of our lives when we belong to Him, which means some of us live like carnal Christians. There is no peace or rest in that lifestyle. There will always be strife, chaos, fluctuation of emotions and all around emptiness. The flesh can not please God, only when we walk in the Spirit can we please God and that’s because God is pleased with His son who lives in us. To accomplish walking in the Spirit, we have to give God all of us. Most of the time, this is a process. We all arrive at the point we are tired of trying until we give up and give it to God. This is what I was talking about with this lady on the phone.
There is no crystal ball or magic potion to take to make this thing called life work for us. His name is Jesus and He is head over heels in love with us. He wrote us a love letter (Bible) and He speaks to us in many ways, all day to get our attention. Sometimes He uses the devil to get our attention. The devil is still God’s devil and bids him to accomplish God’s will in our life. We can’t go around blaming other people for our problems. We take responsibility for our own actions so we can repent and give our heart and life to God. We can’t have it both ways.
I talked to this lady in jail who has been in there for 2 years. She has gotten used to the way things work. She came into this jail angry and fighting any person who thought they were big enough. This was NOT the lady I was talking with tonight. She realizes she doesn’t want to be that person anymore and has been asking for Bible material to study. We talked about a few things in the Bible and we want to continue next week as well. This is a lady who has given her life to God. She has already done it “her” way and it didn’t work.
Before we went home from the jail there was one more lady who wanted to talk. She shuffled her feet down the hall to the law box with a look of dread on her face as she checked her jumpsuit to make sure all the snaps were fastened. We sat down and I waited for her speak. She just looked at me and said, “I don’t know, I just feel separated and alone.” I asked her why she felt this way. She said, “I don’t know, I haven’t been reading my bible either.” I asked her if maybe that could have something to do with it. She laughed and said, “Yeah, maybe.” This lady has been in and out of jail and prison for quite some time. She felt this time was uncalled for and she didn’t deserve to be in jail. She’s in here for spending time with her mom instead of reporting in. Her mom is elderly and in poor health. She doesn’t want anything to happen to her mom while she is locked up. Now, I am thinking to myself…what am I going to say to possibly make a difference in her life right now? I do what I always do and that is, point her to Christ. He knows how to make this better. We read some verses in Exodus together and I wrote them down for her to read later. All I know is, when she left that law box, she had 4 blessings to thank God for when she came in there with none. And she was smiling and had a peace that only Jesus can give.
