Some people just can’t understand why I always want to talk about the Bible, Jesus and God so much. One guy went as far as to say, “There’s more to life than just God.” This same guy, mind you, seems to always want to talk about sports; it is almost the only thing you hear him say. I would love to ask him “Why do you always talk about sports; there’s more to life than just sports you know.”

As I thought about how I would answer this guy several scriptures came to mind. One of them is found in Colossians 3 where Paul tells us Christ is our life. He said, “When Christ, who is our life, is revealed…” So this tells me there isn’t anyway to get around him even if we try because he doesn’t simply give life he in fact “Is” life.

The Old Testament prophet Jeremiah tried to stop talking about the Lord once and it didn’t turn out so well for him. He said, “But if I say, “I will not remember him or speak anymore in his name,” then in my heart it becomes like a burning fire shut up in my bones; and I am weary of holding it in, and I cannot endure it.” Sometimes this is how I feel too. Most of the time you can refrain, but then there are those moments when there is absolutely no way to keep from talking about the Lord.

Jesus compared people to trees and just as you can tell what kind of tree it is by its fruit; you can tell what’s in a man by what comes out of his mouth. “The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.” In other words you can tell what a man loves, and what has his attention, by listening to what he talks about the most.

The Apostle Paul made a statement similar to what Jeremiah said in 1 Corinthians 9. He said, “For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for I am under compulsion; for woe is me if I do not preach the gospel.” Paul knew he would be miserable if he didn’t preach the gospel. I agree, if there is anything I never get tired of talking about it is what God has done in my life and the magnificence of his Word. After spending the last 12 plus years studying the Bible I love it more each and every day. It truly is living and active.

I’ll leave you with one more example using the disciples found in Acts 4. Peter and John had been arrested for preaching and teaching in the name of Jesus. The religious leaders were not happy with them and one way they decided to punish them was to forbid them to teach anymore in the name of Jesus. After they told them this Peter and John responded saying, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to give heed to you rather than to God, you be the judge; for we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.”

Just like the early disciples we have been given a commission to share the gospel with everyone. I for one can assure you if you have really met Jesus and received him into your life you will never be the same and you won’t hesitate to tell others either. If we truly believe we have been set free from sin, death and hell and have the key for others to be free also how could we ever think of keeping it to ourselves?

    1. That’s right! I knew a guy who once said, “When you squeeze a lemon you get lemon juice, when you squeeze an apple you get apple juice; but when you squeeze a Christian you get the fruit of the Spirit–love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance.”
      Thanks Kenneth,
