Continuing with my thoughts about matter being spirit slowed down the question comes to mind. What’s going to happen when the day comes God decides evil has run its course long enough, and time is up? What do you suppose that will look like? If all of what we can see, that appears to be solid material, suddenly dissolves.
In 2 Peter 3:10-12 we to find the answer. It says, “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness. Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?”
As far as I can tell this is telling us God is eventually going to decide the material world, all that our physical eyes can see, will dissolve with great heat. At that point your spiritual allegiance will be revealed for what it truly is. When all the elements have been dissolved only that which is spirit will remain. There will be no more opportunity to make things right with God and all will be relegated to their chosen realm for all eternity.
The idea that the day of reckoning is coming where everyone will remain in the state they are in is also found in Revelation 22:11 where we read, “He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.” At some point God is going to say “Okay this is what you have chosen therefore this is exactly what you are going to get. Enough is enough and everyone will now go to their final home.”
Thinking about end time prophecies and how all of this is going to wrap up isn’t my usual type of study but it is undeniable that it is coming. We are all going to find ourselves either in a heavenly and joyful place filled with light or a dark, terrifying place of anguish. Now is the day of salvation. Now is the time to receive Jesus Christ and his finished work on our behalf. I say with Joshua “Choose you this day who you will serve. As for me and my household we will serve the Lord.”
