WISE AS SERPENTS

“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” (Matthew 10:16)

Have you ever found yourself listening to others saying bad or negative things about someone else? I know dumb question right? Well, today I found myself in that sort of situation and used the opportunity to redirect the conversation. As these guys were saying these things I interrupted by asking them about something else, and immediately the conversation changed for the better. There was a lady sitting next to me and I asked her “Did you see what I just did?” She hesitated at first then she understood. I told her “We’re told to be wise as serpents, right?” She said, “That’s right.” I told her “That’s where that conversation came from wasn’t it? The Serpent’s the one behind that kind of negative gossip isn’t he? “Yes” she said. I was amazed how that all came about. I’ve known of that verse for a long time but never saw it quite like that before. The truth is the enemy is pretty crafty but we have the mind of Christ and Christ has overcome him. We too “overcome him by the blood of the lamb, the word of our testimony; and the loving not of our lives unto death.”(Revelation 12:11)

  1. this happens to me all the time–people srat talking politics and the next thing i know i got the conversation going in the direction of jesus christ–and i know that that was him in me that did that

      • yea cause when i get started on politics it just gets me all frustrated–and when the lord steers me over to him i get peace–i like that better

      • I find most of the time politics is sort of a hamster wheel. There’s lots of action and plenty of energy being spent but not much progress. The gospel and a change of heart is the only real solution.
        Thanks again Kenneth,
