TAKING THE NIGHT OFF

Christ in me the hope of glory!

I’m not really taking the night off but that is what people say when you don’t do something that you always do. For example, our Chaplin at the jail needs to be somewhere else tonight, so I won’t be attending the church services this Thursday.  I could take the night off, but how can we really take the night off? I think that when we live in the Spirit; we are always on. One of the biggest lies we can swallow is that if you are a child of God we can be separate from Him.

The first lie was told and believed in the garden and it is still being believed today. It went something like this; “you shall not surely die, the day you eat thereof then your eyes shall be opened and you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” When Eve took of the fruit she was saying through her actions God is a liar; because she did not believe what God said. Believing and trusting God is how we all come to repentance and salvation. My point is the devil has told us the same lie over and over; it is the lie that we can do it on our own, making our own decisions.

Through my relationship with God I have learned that it is Him and only Him who does everything in us, about us, and through us. The very heart beat in our chest is because He is beating it for us; every breath we breathe is His because He is breathing for us. The only way we can love others is because God first loved us; which proves that God exists because we can only be selfish. Gal. 2:20 says I have been crucified with Christ (like unzipping Jesus and putting us inside) nevertheless I live (spirit, soul and body) yet, not I, but Christ lives in me (taking Him in) and the life that I now live in the flesh I live by the faith (His faith that He gave me) of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me (which is love). Do you see how it’s all Him?

We were all in Adam when he fell. I just don’t think we understand how far. The good news is that Jesus came to redeem fallen man, and make us His righteousness. That puts us in Christ, seated in heavenly places, which means NO sin. God did not create Adam with sin so that tells me that God’s plan all along has been for us to be holy, blameless, perfect, and beyond reproach. It’s because Jesus died a death we deserved, but was raised from the dead so we could be given the life of Christ to live. Because for me to live IS CHRIST!!! He did it all; Jesus said it is finished; there is no more for us to do. To try to do for ourselves, to complete some task or even to worry is to call God a liar. We simply DO NOT believe what He says. He says, “Learn of me, for I am meek and lowly at heart,” cast your cares upon me for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. He keeps telling us over and over again in the scriptures in a ton of different ways. It’s Jesus plus nothing. We simply trust Him and He will show us when there is sin in our life. We don’t have go around digging it up or looking for it. When He shows it to us, we confess that sin because remember on the cross, when He died for ALL our sin? We are already forgiven. He did it all, do we trust Him for that or not?

So I am not taking the night off, but I am resting in the Lord as He fulfills His will in me because He glorifies himself and He is living in me, so I will trust Him to do what it is that He does.
