When there is more than one minister it seems as though there is only one message. I don’t talk with JoAnna, Margo, or Joyce during the week so when we all get together to share in the jail, somehow it sounds like one message.
Last week while listening to one of the inmates tell their story, she said to me, “Oh, not you, Miss Tracey, you’re perfect.” Of course they think that, but they don’t know the struggle it took to get where I am. Those words weighed heavy on me as the week went on and a question came to me, “what sends a person to hell?” Some people say its smoking, drugs, divorce, murder or some may say cussing. The truth is, never trusting Jesus as your personal Lord and Savoir sends you to hell. Actually, hell was never meant for people. God made hell for Lucifer and his angels. Because God loves us so much, He gave us a will and we choose where we will live for eternity. 2 Peter says, “God is patient toward us not willing for any to perish, but for all to come to repentance.” Eph 1:18 is a prayer “that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling.” God went to great lengths to give us His salvation through His son, Jesus Christ. I heard once that the people in hell want to be there. I didn’t accept that at first, but then the more I thought about it…. People, everyday are hearing Jesus calling them. God is not giving up on us. It makes me think they want hell because they never surrender to the one who gave them life.
God loves us so much that He lets us live our whole life ignoring Him, and He still loves us. Then the day comes, we answer His call, and He changes us into a new creature. It’s like in 1 John 3:2-9 where it says, “no one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.” This stirred up confusion until I was able to explain the picture of how a man and wife consummate their relationship by the seed of the man being planted inside her womb. A brand new life, which had not been there before, is now a new creation. The seed in this picture is the Holy Spirit, He cannot sin. We are not talking about the flesh here, but spirit. When our spirit is joined to the Holy Spirit, our spirit is holy, perfect, and ready for heaven. We are waiting for our bodies to catch up so we can be changed into who we really have been all along. The bottom line is that if you don’t have Jesus Christ in your heart and life, you can’t go to heaven. The good news is when you do have Jesus in you, you have everything that He is because it’s “in Him we live and move and have our being.”
Hand goes up, high five in the air, tag, JoAnna goes up next. She talks about the seed being planted on different types of soil found in Luke 8. An awesome message from God through JoAnna spoke to many hearts in the room. Up next is Margo who continues the flow of faith and what that means. She explained the power of faith when two or more gather in His name and agree. We agree with God, and He is the power that works in us.
At the very end of the service Joyce comes to wrap it all up and reiterate God’s unfailing love, grace and mercy. God is seeking to save those who are lost. He is not giving up nor is He going to shut up because Jesus is head over heels in love with us. When we fall in love with Him then our attitude, minds and hearts change for Him. He changes us from a pig to a sheep. We are a new creation, with a new nature, one that no longer enjoys rolling in the mud.
Oh God, I pray you open the eyes of our understanding and grant us revelation into your Word about who you are and your love for us. Amen.
